Slowing Up?
I understand it may be a cultural or regional saying, but could someone please explain to me the logic behind the phrase “slowing up”? I heard it on the radio this morning during the traffic report. Apparently the highways were “slowing up”. I mean, I understand it means things were getting slow, but why “up” and not “down”???

The rate of slowness is increasing.
Like you turn down the air conditioner to increase the coldness.
It’s calculus.
