Last night I went on my first shopping trip since I got my Fit and I was very excited to see how the groceries fit in the cargo space. Well, either I didn’t buy enough groceries, or there’s just tons of space. I’ll go with the latter. Here’s a picture:

A friend of mine from space camp (we were counselors together) posted on my MySpace page to tell me she also just got a Fit, a silver one. She referred to it as a Phit, which I thought was quite humorous. Apparently she came up with it as part of a smart-ass remark to someone who asked about the spelling: “So, ‘Fit’ as in F-I-T?” Ha! I like it.

So there are a few things so far that I really like about my Fit. The first is something small, but its the variable volume control. Which means, if I set the stereo at a certain volume in my driveway, it will gradually get louder as I speed up to compensate for the sound of the road. Then it will quiet back down when I slow down again. I can control how sensitive it is, but right now I have it up to the highest setting. I think its so cool. Which probably makes me a huge nerd, but oh well.

Another great feature is the auxillary-in jack. I have my XM going straight into the auxillary outlet and it sounds so much better than when it was transmitting sound through the FM frequencies. And its so easy to switch from radio to XM, which was not true when I had it installed in my Pontiac. So it looks like both of my raves this time are stereo related. I’m sure I love other things too…those just stand out right now.

I’m watching “The Class” where Richie rides the bull and it just makes me think. Is there anywhere in Nashville where you can do that? It seems like there should be.

Tonight was the last showing of “Ordinary Heroes”…you know, the play I’ve mentioned a few times, and the one John H seemed to enjoy enough to go back a second time? Well, tonight was the end of it and it’s always kind of bittersweet when a show ends. Even if the experience wasn’t exactly what you thought it would be, it’s still an end to something that connects with our ultimate desire to be creative and expressive. Even though all I did was push the “go” button when the stage manager said to, I was still reminded of how much I do love theatre and the experience it creates. Of course, when you’re working with a talented group such as Actor’s Bridge, most every experience is special, so I guess that makes it even harder to say “goodbye” to another production. I want to get back on stage. Soon.

The craziest thing happened today. We were driving down Nebraska on our way to get some lunch, and what might pass our way, but another red Fit! I tried to catch up by zooming out into traffic…thinking maybe they’d see me and honk or wave or something. I even went so far as to honk at them at the next major intersection.

Nothing. No reaction whatsoever.

THEN, just now, on our way home from Bosco’s, we passed a black Fit and I tried to wave at the driver as we passed (slowly).

Again, nothing!

Where’s the commeradery? I thought I was joining some elite club by buying a Honda, much less the new Fit. Shouldn’t there be some sort of common code we use to say “yea, we know, we’re better than everyone else”? I may have to form a support group or something. I feel so lost.

As rain trickles down for the first time on my new car, I thought it would be a good time to document my first impressions of my new Fit. First of all, I apologize for the repetitive use of the phrase “my new (blank)”, but when else am I going to be able to use it? Now, I’m not an auto expert, so this isn’t going to be one of those fancy reviews where I talk about horsepower and…other high tech auto stuff. This is just one woman’s review on her, you got it, new car. And its going to be totally biased so deal with it and don’t burst my bubble by posting something bad about it.

Overall, I am very pleased so far with the performance of this little car. My biggest concern when I was shopping for the car was the fact that it is a 4-cylinder, whereas my previous car was a 6-cylinder (see, I know something about cars), and I like that power. I didn’t get to test drive the Fit on the interstate, so there was a bit of anxiety about it until we drove it off the lot. Maybe its the fact that the car is so much lighter than my Grand Am, or that there’s not actually much difference between a 4 and 6-cylinder, but I really love the “umph” of the car. I actually have to watch myself cause I cruise to 40 with no problem and then realize all of the sudden I am going 40 when I shouldn’t be. Anything less than that seems really slow. Yea, I gotta watch that.

The next thing I love is how well it handles turns. It must be a combination of the fact that it is pretty low to the ground and that it is light, but this thing hugs turns like I’ve never experienced. I’m sure the excellent turning radius helps with that, so it really is a significantly different feeling for me. Speaking of turning radius, I am so happy to finally have a car with a great turning radius. Its not one of those things that will make or break a car for me, but it does get annoying sometimes.

I am still working out the most comfortable seating position and seat angle, but in general the ride is very comfortable. I love the dual texture seats and the headrests for all passengers. Now, if only I had some people to tote around in it. Then it be even more proud of all the space packed into this little car.

One thing I am very excited about (and this may say a lot about me) is going shopping for groceries and filling up the back with them. I think the cargo space is pretty impressive, so it will be interesting to see how well it accomodates a normal shopping trip. I opted to go with the cargo cover, which can be removed if I decide I want to lay down the seats and put something large in there. The Fit floormats are also a nice touch. Hmmm…I’m starting to think I will need to post some more pictures soon.

Today, I think I’m going to find an audio cable for my XM radio so I can plug it directly into the auxillary outlet in the Fit. It took me a bit to understand the benefit of this, but now I don’t have to depend on finding a radio frequency that will broadcast the signal. I still don’t fully understand all the science of it, but it guarantees better sound (or a better signal, one of those), so I’m excited about that. I think I’ll also order the cup mount for the XM. I’m not very keen on sticking something to my new dashboard right away. I’ve yet to use the CD player, but the sound system is impressive. That’s about all I can think of to comment on so far. If anything interesting comes up, I’ll be sure to post about it.

So far I really love it. I promise to post a better review later, but here’s the token shot of the odometer at 4 miles.

I just got an email from JetBlue, apologizing for their horrible misfortune over the past weekend and it reminded me of an NPR piece I was listening to the other day. People were calling in, saying that JetBlue isn’t doing enough, that its Bill of Rights doesn’t go far enough and that this is just the beginning of a long battle.

Is being admirable not enough in this situation? They are the only airline to come out and actually apologize to their customers and they are getting slammed for it. I think its commendable and should be an example to other airlines. Am I too easily placated?

It’s here! Just got a call from the dealer and my car is here, in Nashville!!! The only thing is that my accessories aren’t here till tomorrow so I’ll probably wait till then to pick it up. I’m going this afternoon though to get my first look at it and probably go ahead and do the financial paperwork. Ahhh!!!! So, when you see a red Fit driving around town this weekend, give me a honk!

Its official. Clementine is going to be in the newest People’s Branch production of “Hanging Mary”, an original work by Matthew Carlton. I don’t really know many details yet, but I do know the dates of the shows! March 8th through the 17th at the Belcourt in Hillsboro Village.

She is so excited. I mean, last night she started singing “Clementine Superstar” (to the tune of “Jesus Christ Superstar”, obviously) and kept practicing her bow. I think this might go to her head.
